Consumer Driven Health Plan?

By goron32

Most people agree that our health care system is broken.  Insurance companies are covering less and refusing to cover more people.  Is putting more responsibility on the patient a better way or just another way for insurance companies to increase their profits?  I noticed that this video was made by an insurance company, so I’m not sure that I buy that this is the answer.

I think that something needs to be done, but I haven’t found an answer that I like.  What do you think?

I completely agree that CDHPs can reduce overall health care costs, increase innovation, encourage competition, improve services and improve patient care.

The real challenge is educating consumers and getting people involved in making informed choices about their own personal health care decisions.

Most insurance plans do not provide relevant and useful tools to help consumers make informed cost-effective choices and determine the best value BEFORE visiting a provider.

Many internet tools are available to look-up prices for health care services and read doctor reviews, but all these tools lack relevant data.

If insurers agreed to lift the veil on secret contracted prices— and make this information public, the industry would be able to develop meaningful tools to help consumers comparison shop for value just like we do today using eBay, Amazon.com and Travelocity.com.
